Inspiring young leaders through the Spirit of Innovation

The 'Spirit of Innovation' competition was created by Philips and the Dubai Economic Council to raise awareness of the importance of innovation amongst UAE’s future leaders and encouraged students to think of sustainable solutions for some of the country’s current and future challenges in energy efficiency, healthcare and personal health & well-being. The competition promoted the value of collaboration, leadership, strategic thinking and discovery of creative potential.

A century of research into improving lives

A century of research into improving lives

2014 marks 100 years since Philips Research was established - a landmark that the company will celebrate throughout the year. Anton and Gerard Philips, the company’s founders, created the Natuurkundig Laboratorium in 1914 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Since then, Philips’ focus on innovations that touch lives has resulted in more than 165,000 granted patents, including game-changing X-ray tubes, radios that connect continents, pioneering shavers, as well as the very first audio cassettes and CDs. Today, Philips has one of the world’s largest corporate research organizations, employing 1,500 professionals across six locations.

Focus on what innovation does for you

Philips’ long history of innovation goes back to our beginnings, when we lifted Europe out of darkness by pioneering lighting technologies. Ever since then, our innovations have improved the lives of people all around the world.  Whether it’s a new way to brush your teeth, an energy-efficient way to light a street, or a less-invasive way to treat disease.  Others may focus on what innovation does. We focus on what it does for you. On the 13th of November we celebrated this spirit at our headquarters in Amsterdam.
